MTG deck box buying guide When you’re buying an MTG deck box, the following are the top things that you need to keep in mind: 1. Box capacity How many cards can you fit in an MTG deck box is something you should always consider. While most basic decks can take 100 double-sleeve cards, you only fit like 80 in other models. Since you need 100 cards for a commander deck, you’ll have to either put the cards in single sleeves or store your deck in two separate boxes (which isn't really an option!) If you’re buying a deck box to an MTG deck that you use with you, we recommend you get a box with a capacity of 100 double-sleeved cards. 2. Interior and exterior materials The materials of the deck box that you’re using for MTG cards isn’t a cosmetic feature. These materials play a key role in protecting your cards. Locking mechanism Since you’ll be carrying these boxes with you and moving them around a lot, a good locking mechanism is essential. This will keep the box securely closed, and you can still open it with ease.
